I don't know about you, but when I am stressed out, I tend to make some pretty bad food choices. Also, if I get really busy, fast food is just there calling my name. I must admit that I have had a Big Mac craving for about two months now but have so far resisted the urge to buy one. After my Whataburger taquito incident, I am a bit wary of giving in to a Big Mac attack.
We pass around magazines in our family, and I found this really cool website in my daughter's Parenting magazine. It's always fun to read about the things that I should have done when I still had children living at home.:) Anyway, the site I am talking about is HealthyDiningFinder.com, and it allows you to plug in your zip code and get nutritional information for dine in or take out restaurants in your area. The cool thing is that you can make a choice before you ever even pull up to the drive through or sit down to peruse a menu. Sometimes an entree that looks really low cal and healthy actually has all of the calories and carbs you need for the day (kind of like a Big Mac). Plus, I always get nervous if it takes me too long to check out a menu at a fast food joint. I'm always worried someone will push me on through. This way I can know before I go exactly what I want to order.
Teachers don't always eat healthy due to time constraints during lunch and being just too tired to cook. Thus, the unhealthy choices. I pretty much lived on those microwave soups for years because I could swallow them in a few minutes while making copies, going to the restroom, having unscheduled parent conferences, and checking the notes left for me that morning. After walking my students to the cafeteria, I always felt like I had to be jet propelled just to get it all done. (I will save drinking enough water and kidney stones for another post.)
If you have any great tips for eating healthy or some yummy recipes, let me know. Also, it would be fun to share ideas for easy, healthy teacher lunches.
